Free Shop Assistants

Closed 17/05/2019

The Students' Union is looking for motivated, reliable and friendly Free Shop Assistants to help prepare for and host our extremely popular Freshers' Free Shop.

Each year the Students' Union works with the University of Sussex, and Sussex Estates and Facilities to collect donations of unwanted items from students moving out of halls of residence, rescuing thousands of items from landfill. New students can pick up crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and stationery from our annual Freshers' Free Shop at the beginning of the academic year. We also donate a large amount to charities, including the British Heart Foundation and Sussex Fareshare.

We welcome applications from everyone, including but not exclusive to; people with an ethnic minority or Chinese background, people with a disability, people with dependants, and people who identify as LGBTQ+. In order to support this commitment we anonymise applications and give our selection panels Unconscious Bias Training. We also consider flexible working for those with care commitments. If you have any suggestions as to how we could improve our language or application process please let us know.

We are recruiting a team of Free Shop Assistants to sort through, clean, and tidy donations in June ready for charity and our Freshers Free Shop AND/OR host the Free Shop during Freshers’ Week in September.

You will need to be available to work for the following dates:

Sorting -  Saturday 15th to Monday 17th June (3 days)

Freshers’ Free Shop - Saturday 21st to Monday 23rd September (3 days)

It is possible to work in June or September or both but you MUST be available for all of the days advertised for either period (e.g. All 3 days in June AND/OR all 3 days in September OR all 6 days for both). Please indicate if you are applying to work in June and/or September in your application.

This post may be withdrawn if circumstances outside of our control mean that project requirements cannot be met.
