Student Participation Assistant

We're looking for someone to join our Activities department and support the running of our popular Buddy Scheme and Language Café. In this role, you will be a key part in the running and supporting two of our greatest schemes, benefiting new and current students. You will work as part of a friendly team and gain experience by organising events, activities and supervising volunteers.

A day in the life of this role:

‘My day to day in this job can be incredibly varied. One minute I am interviewing students for the Language Cafe, the next I am running a forum for postgraduate students. I deliver newsletters to members, and boost our online presence with Instagram posts and Facebook promotions.

This job is perfect for anyone who is passionate about communications, events, marketing and membership services. I’ve learnt so much and built up my skills along the way. It has helped me learn how to successfully market events, how to use social media to communicate with an audience and how to carry out advanced administrative duties on programs such as Excel, something vital to every job.

If you enjoy writing, love being creative and are keen to challenge yourself managing the delivery of as many as ten events per term, then this is the position for you! You’ll meet students from all around the world and work with a membership of over 1000, helping develop networks that span across different subjects, schools and academic years within the University.’

We welcome applications from everyone, including but not exclusive to; postgraduates, people with a Chinese or other ethnic minority background, people with a disability, people with dependents, and people who identify as LGBTQ+.  We anonymise applications before shortlisting and give staff conducting interviews Unconscious Bias Training. We also consider flexible working for those with care commitments. If you have any suggestions as to how we could improve our language or application process please let us know.
