Sound Technicians

Closed 15/07/2019

Our friendly Event’s team is hiring for a group of Sound Technicians to work at our varied events! These can include off-campus events such as our Student Awards and society balls or events in our spaces and venues on campus like gigs and club nights.

If you’ve got some experience in working with sound equipment or would like to develop your skills further this is a great opportunity. Working alongside our events team, other technical supervisors and often professional A/V companies- you’ll have the opportunity to gain experience working at diverse events, both large and small scale.

A typical shift would start by meeting the Events Team for a briefing before the event and then organising what equipment is needed, checking out the space, planning how long set up will take and whether extra support is needed. It will then be your responsibility to make sure we are set up on time on the day and will lead on any sound checks or artist requirements that are needed. Sometimes events can be left to run themselves and other times you’ll be required to stay, but it will be your responsibility to ensure our kit is well maintained and looked after. Recent events that our Sound Technicians have worked at include Bark in the Park (a community dog show), Mx Sussex (the first Drag pageant held at Sussex) and Wavelength (a 3 stage music festival hosted by our very own Radio Station) - so no two events are the same!

You will be able to sign up for shifts that work alongside your studies and will be given training on the equipment we use so that you can work independently.

We welcome applications from everyone, including but not exclusive to; people with an ethnic minority or Chinese background, people with a disability, people with dependants, and people who identify as LGBTQ+. We conduct anonymous shortlisting and all of our interview panels have Unconscious Bias Training in order to support the above. We also consider flexible working for those with care commitments. If you have any suggestions as to how we could improve our language or application process please let us know.
