Are you interested in a busy career in retail? We are looking for a hard-working, dynamic and passionate individual to support the Shop Manager in the day-to-day running of our friendly Union Shop.

Nestled under the arches of Falmer House, at the center of the Students’ Union Hub, the Union Shop is an important part of life on campus. We are looking for an engaged individual to take responsibility for assisting with all aspects of retail work. This would include managing a team of Duty Managers and Customer Service Assistants, helping with recruitment and coaching, cash handling and leading on all aspects of customer service. You would be expected to assist in careful inventory management through placing orders, inputting deliveries and monitoring stock levels on a day-to-day basis whilst leading and supporting the team in the Shop Manager’s absence. If providing a quality customer service in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same sounds like something you’d enjoy, this could be the job for you.

Our graduate placements provide support and training to help you gain experience and develop your skills.

Job Title:  Assistant Shop Manager     

Responsible to: Shop Manager

Responsible for: Duty Managers and Customer Service Assistants

Salary: £18,421 full-time equivalent, per annum, pro rata

Contract: Fixed term for 2 years

Hours of work: Annualised hours of up to 1,672 per annum. worked on a flexible basis to meet business requirements. This will likely include working evenings and weekends.

Applicants: University of Sussex or BSMS graduates (graduated in 2017, 2018 and 2019), and Sussex students requiring a work placement year, or Sussex Students’ Union staff. The Union looks to employ these students, graduates and SU staff in order to provide valuable skills and experience to them, increasing their employability and personal development
