Our friendly Events Team are looking for a creative person who is great at making connections with others to curate our Black History Month programme 2019. Previous programmes have included art exhibitions, guest speaker talks, film screenings and gigs. We are looking for someone to expand and improve the month based on what students would love to see.
As Black History Month is a key time of representation for our students, you’ll be researching what Sussex students want to see. Whilst working alongside the rest of the Events Team, you’ll be the point of contact for any groups/departments interested in hosting events. You will also contribute ideas of how we spend our funding and be contacting local community groups in Brighton to see how we can best advertise their programmes too.
This is a great opportunity for anyone who is looking for experience in events, event programming and curating, or working in promotions and marketing. You’ll be excited to work with a diverse range of student groups, elected officers and university departments. You’ll have scope and creativity to host your own events and try innovative ways of marketing and getting students engaged.

Job Title: Black History Month Curator
Responsible to: Events Coordinator
Salary: £10.25 per hour, (made up of £9.15 basic wage plus £1.10 holiday pay.) Pay is calculated this way because our students often have other work in vacation time. They tell us they prefer an enhanced hourly amount rather than separate holiday pay.
Contract: Fixed Term, ending Friday 8th November
Hours of work: 7.5 hours per week (100 hours in total). This role will likely include some evening and weekend work during term time.
