Commercial Events Assistant

Closed 18/06/2019

Our Events and Bars teams are looking for a creative, driven and organised individual to help facilitate the smooth running of a wide programme of events on our campus venues, and to look for innovative ways to increase engagement with students and boost revenue in these outlets.

This role has a focus on events in our commercial outlets, if you’re more interested in a role in non-profit events, please see our other Events Assistant role:

The Students’ Union runs three bars, one cafe and helps cater for a variety of different functions in multiple other spaces across campus. Our calendar of student activities and events includes everything from the regular open mic nights, sports screenings and pub quizzes to cocktail masterclasses, drag shows and club nights. We are recruiting for someone to ensure this programme is successfully delivered and to help it remain consistently diverse and exciting. Working alongside the Events Team, you’ll ensure that events are well planned and well executed on a regular basis. You’ll be a confident people-person who is happy to undertake research on the demands of students, take part in planning meetings with event organisers and student societies, and work with our bar managers and sound technicians on ensuring high quality production. Communication is key in this role as you’ll be expected to work alongside many different students and staff.

This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to gain experience in events or working in venues as you’ll have a lot of scope to contribute your ideas and perspective whilst working on our diverse platform of student-focused events.

Our graduate placements provide support and training to help you gain experience and develop your skills.

We welcome applications from everyone, including but not exclusive to; people with an ethnic minority or Chinese background, people with a disability, people with dependants, and people who identify as LGBTQ+. We conduct anonymous shortlisting and all of our interview panels have Unconscious Bias Training in order to support the above. We also consider flexible working for those with care commitments. If you have any suggestions as to how we could improve our language or application process please let us know.
