Communications and Digital Support Administrator
Are you looking to gain hands-on experience in communications, digital content and administration while making a positive difference for students at Sussex?
We are seeking a Communications and Digital Support Administrator to join our Communications and Digital Support Team. This role offers a valuable opportunity to develop practical skills alongside your studies, while supporting the delivery of the campaigns, projects and services on which our students rely. Prior communications experience is not required. If you are organised, curious and keen to learn, we would welcome your application.
In this role, you will provide essential administrative support to the team, including managing inboxes and request forms, taking minutes, assisting with reception duties and directing requests to the appropriate colleagues. You will also help maintain our digital platforms and drives, organising files and assets, proofreading materials, supporting platforms such as Canva, SUMS and Basecamp, and keeping records and user access accurate and up to date. Where appropriate, you will have the opportunity to create and publish content, which will help you to build your portfolio. You will work closely with colleagues, elected officers and students across the Students’ Union, and act as a approachable point of contact for anyone who requires additional support. We are a student-led, ethically driven organisation with liberation at our core, and we would be delighted for you to join us.
Who are we looking for?
Experience of administration, email management, cloud storage (like Google Drive) and content creation is helpful, but it isn't essential. What matters most is that you're:
- Organised and able to manage your workload
- A proactive self-starter
- Reliable and detail-focused
- Great with people, and respectful of different cultures and perspectives
- Positive, adaptable and supportive of your team

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
We really welcome applications from abroad for all of our vacancies. Due to legal regulations we have to ensure that everyone is eligible to work in the UK, and this would be done by us checking and making a copy of the correct original identification/documentation before your first day of work. You may also be limited in the number of hours you would be allowed to work. Find out more information about applying to work in the UK.
GETTING PAID
Everyone working in the UK needs a National Insurance number in order to get paid. If you are a UK citizen you will automatically have this. If you are not, you might want to apply for an NI number at the same time as you apply for a job so there is no delay in your payments, using this link: https://www.gov.uk/apply-natio.... You cannot apply for a National Insurance Number until you're in the UK, but this should not stop you from completing your application.
COMMITMENT TO INCLUSION
We are really committed to maintaining a diverse workforce because we know how important it is to have decision makers and collaborators with varied lived experiences and backgrounds that reflect the range of needs from our diverse student community.
We welcome applications from everyone, and we want to strongly encourage applications from people with an ethnic minority or Chinese background, people with a disability, people with dependents, and people who identify as LGBTQ+. We conduct anonymous shortlisting and all of our interview panels have Unconscious Bias Training. We also consider flexible working for those with care commitments. If you have any suggestions as to how we could improve our language or application process, please let us know.
STAFF AND APPLICANTS WITH LONG TERM CONDITIONS
The Students' Union aims to implement reasonable adjustments for all staff and applicants with disabilities, creating a culture of cooperation, shared responsibility and proactiveness to ensure equitable access to jobs. We want to make sure everyone is supported in our selection processes, and equipped to work safely and get as much as possible out of their role.
